Dr Juliet Nyasulu, external lecturer

Dr Juliet Nyasulu is a technical expert in health system strengthening and has over 25 years’ experience working in African health systems across sub-Saharan Africa. She holds a PhD in public health with a focus on health system strengthening through quality assurance. Her research passion revolves around access to basic and essential health services.

Juliet is a senior lecturer at the Division of Health Systems and Public Health located in the Department of Global Health at Stellenbosch University. As an expert committee member of South Africa’s National Certification Committee, she oversees the country’s polio eradication initiatives. In her home country of Malawi, Julliet leads an HIV/Aids and sexual reproductive health youth project in collaboration with local academic and implementation partners. She also collaborates with Malawi-based institutions and organisations to strengthen the implementation of public health programmes in the country, with a focus on youth and women. Through this collaboration, she is currently a coprincipal investigator with the NGO Yoneco (Youth Net and Counselling) on a UN Women-funded project regarding preventing and mitigating violence against women. At the Africa Centre, Juliet presents the PgDip study unit on strategies for HIV prevention, which she has done since 2024.
