Michelle Munro, external lecturer

Michelle Munro has been working in the higher education HIV/Aids field since 2002. She is currently the manager of the HIV, gender and sexualities portfolio of Stellenbosch University’s Equality Unit. Michelle started her studies at the university in 1995, obtaining an honours degree in psychology in 1998, a postgraduate education certificate in 2003 – the same year that she completed an HIV/Aids care and counselling course through Unisa – and a master’s degree in education in 2007. In addition, Michelle completed several international courses in higher education and health, including the Leadership in Strategic Health Communication course at Johns Hopkins University in the USA. She also served as master trainer for the Africa Health Communications Network and developed and facilitated an interpersonal communication and counselling skills course presented at various universities throughout Africa in partnership with Johns Hopkins University. 

Michelle’s areas of expertise include HIV, gender, sexualities, mental health and wellness through a health social justice framework. She is passionate about helping people by using psychology, counselling, coaching and mediation. Michelle has been presenting the PgDip study unit on mental health and wellbeing since 2023. When Michelle has some free time, she enjoys painting and building Lego.
