Dean Peacock, external lecturer

Dean Peacock’s activism focuses on advancing gender equality, preventing gender-based violence, addressing HIV/Aids, reducing armed conflict and advocating for health and human rights for all. At the Africa Centre, he teaches the ethics and leadership in HIV/Aids management unit, which falls under the PgDip programme’s management in the area of HIV/Aids module.

Dean is the co-founder and former executive director of Sonke Gender Justice, the co-founder of the Global MenEngage Alliance and the Global MenCare Campaign and a co-commissioner of the Lancet Commission on Global Gun Violence and Health. He is also an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Cape Town’s School of Public Health and a scholar in residence at the Violence, Inequality and Power Lab at the University of San Diego.

In his spare time, Dean likes to go cycling, hiking in the woods with his family and reading. “I’m enormously grateful to enjoy Cape Town’s breathtaking beauty every day and to benefit from and be inspired by our country’s resilient human rights culture.”
