Khadija Richards, external lecturer

For the past 30 years, Khadija Richards has worked with legislatures, municipalities and clinical research sites to address the social determinants of health through the framework of deep democracy.

Over the last five years, she has narrowed her focus to strengthen the statutory requirements for community engagement in global clinical trials for infectious diseases in the context of complex populations, which is at the core of inclusive health management: “Inclusive health management starts with community engagement in epidemiological research and pharmaceutical product development and persists throughout the health value chain, including global clinical and socio-behavioural studies to national and regional health policy and cascading down to product and service rollout at the micro-community level.” In line with her commitment to social justice, Khadija presents the PgDip unit on stigma and discrimination.

When she has free time, Khadija enjoys spending it with her three children, doing yoga, walking in nature and reading.
