Mohamed Motala

Mohamed Motala’s early work involved organising and supporting poor black workers and shack dwellers in South Africa during apartheid. He then made a shift to research, public policy and management in the nonprofit and public sectors. Mohamed holds an honours degree in geography and a master’s in town and regional planning. He is passionate about addressing poverty and inequality in the context of the political, social and economic conditions that determine the health of poorer communities. Mohamed has also taught executive and master’s level courses at university level. He is currently the executive director of the Networking HIV and Aids Community of Southern Africa (NACOSA), a national networking organisation and grant and programme manager working to build stronger, more equal, healthy and safe communities in Southern Africa.

“Universal healthcare (UHC), where everyone can live a healthy and fulfilled life, will only be possible in a world where inclusive health management is normalised. I am excited to be part of making this a reality through the work of the ACIHM, given the changes taking place in the global health ecosystem today, which makes UHC a real possibility.”
