Dr Burt Davis, senior lecturer

Burt, who was born and bred in Somerset West in the Western Cape, teaches both Postgraduate Diploma and MPhil students, including providing research guidance to these students. Walking the journey with them from a vague research idea to something tangible and empirical – and seeing the pride on students’ faces once they have completed their research – is what excites Burt most about his position at the Africa Centre. Burt also conducts his own research and drives social impact work at the centre. The latter has mainly taken the form of developing several photo novels to create awareness about critical health issues in local communities such as diabetes and teenage pregnancies. Running is Burt’s other great passion in life, and he boasts with more than one marathon under his belt.
